My Starbucks Cups Collection

Some of you might collect Starbucks coffee travel mugs, but I have my own collection of Starbucks cups.

So far this is my favorite. IMG_1670.jpg

I also have this one: IMG_1462.jpg

Do you think we are ready to live in a multicultural environment? May be not yet if we even can't pronounce our neighbors' names (including me). Having in mind a success of Anastasia cartoon, my proposal is to change all the primitive Dora, Mickey and Mini Mouse, Tom and Jerry, Donald Duck, Winnie the Pooh names to real Chen, Cheng, Chun, Jing, Aishwarya, Akanksha, Bhaskara and Chandrakant. Yop, probably we will not have enough cartoon characters. But need to start with something in order our kids can easily live in a new world full of new unusual names and unknown cultures.

Memento Mori!

I always thought that there are some taboo subjects universal to all modern societies. Like death. Of cause there are some ancient societies where death was celebrated: Ancient Egypt, some tribal cultures. But it is all in the past and now people usually do not like speaking about death. We fear it and we do not want it. Hey, are you still alive? - is just a joke. But even this joke can be perceived as rude and tasteless.

Imagine my surprise when I received this letter?

Why? Why?

Ok, ok, it makes sense, I understand. Though when you are already dead, nothing in the world makes sense anymore.

I could even win a pre-paid cremation! Wow!

Oh, I am happy for David Casey! Congrats! How are you doing Mr Casey? Are you still alive? Oups.

And, oh suprise again, in May I received one more:

No, guys, it does not make any sense for me. Please check my age in your database or just do your marketing differently. May be a small event on the cemetery with champaigne and orchestra would be a good idea or a small talk with elementary school kids "Cremation just makes sense"?

Memento mori, guys,.... and do not forget about money!

City-Sunshine

This charitable organization's name is City-Sunshine and it operates in Lipetsk (Russia) only on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 3 pm. I do not know exactly what questions City-sunshine's members discuss and what project they carry out. I have never attended meetings they have during these 2 hours per week (I regret). But when I saw their door, the only thought that passed through my head was: Guys, before making your city shine, try to sweep your own doorstep and at least paint the door."

Russian Speakers Wanted in la Rochelle city (France). Urgent!

I live in California. There are so many Russian here, engineers, lawyers, doctors, teachers, stay-at-home moms, people from all backgrounds and professions. And it is so unbelievable to see such mistakes in Russian translations. Though, it is not California.
As far as I understand there are not so many Russians in la Rochelle city (south west of France). Not yet.

When you come to San Francisco be sure to wear flowers in your hair....(2)

Usually I use only my own pictures for this blog but Anlosty's pictures are just so awsome. I couldn't help myself. They are done during the annual footrace in SF - Bay to Breakers - which took place on the third Sunday of May. I missed the event (that's why also Anlosty's pictures are in this post, not mine) and also the chance to see all these naked people around.
You will quickly understand why SF is the gay capital. Be careful if you have small kids with you now, just get them away from the screen! ))

What does religion and toilet have in commun?

I thought the word church was religion-related. It seems it is also toilet-related.

IMG_0250.JPG

May be nothing special, just a guy called Charles Church founded a company of toilet seats. But still for non-English speakers (like me)- kind of strange.

Uneven Surface! Do Not Cross!

I do not know how drunk you should be to try to cross this surface by car.

Here again is an example of unnecessary (from European viewpoint) warning message which are so popular in the US.

I Love My Neighbors!!!!

Fortunately, these neighbors are not mine. Neither those who wrote it, nor those whom it was written about.

I will try to translate for those Russian and French speaking who did not embrace all verbal nuances of the language. Thanks to my friend Elena I could manage to understand all the subtleties of this neighbor's verbal (may be not just verbal) war.

French language is back on track in Russia like among the upper Russian nobility before the October Revolution of 1917. Look at the sticker I saw on the window of an ordinary Russian bus in my native Lipetsk:

((/public/.IMG_1242_m.jpg||, mar. 2012))

It said: I move to the back of the bus!

Well, a little of French language in Russian buses would probably make someone smile (like me). We (Russians) do need to put a smile on our faces, especially while taking public transportation.

A New generation is Coming!

Brand loyalty starts from a very early age... Well, maybe too early in this case.

Jesus and the Trash

A picture from the Christmas period. Made in CA, USA. But as it turned out this picture might illustrate the problem which is worthy of serious discussion... here, there and everywhere.

Why Russians Would Experience Difficulties with Building their Silicon Valley?

My daughter got a nice toy. She really liked it.

Repka Repka 2

I liked it too. Nice idea. Original design. Eco-friendly material...

But now take a closer look at the label.

Label Label2 Label3

Now you know why Russians will have difficulties with building thier own Silicon Valley. It is all about details.

What a nice car!

I saw this... means of transportation on a car parking near my husband's work. I wish I could see the owner.

Palms and Snow

Just funny artificial palm trees seen in my native Lipetsk (Russia), in a school yard. Snow winter is around. Cold and frosty. We need a dream. I do not know if these palm trees help school children to cope with the winter weather, to simply smile every morning going to school, to love their school more, to become more environmentally friendly (the palm trees are made of plastic bottles) but the idea is just great.
